Preview: It seems that the world is filled with counterfeit religion. A counterfeit is something likely to be confused with the genuine thing. For this reason, all of us need to spend much time in prayerful study of God’s Word so that we are not deceived. This is the first part of a two-part lesson on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 25:1-13.

Memory Verse: Matthew 7:14.

1. What must one do to be a disciple of Christ? John 8:31.
2. What will be the result? John 8:32.
3. What does it prove if we practice sin? John 8:34.
4. Who is our spiritual father if we follow sin? John 8:44.
5. What did Paul and Silas tell the Philippian jailer? Acts 16:29-32.
6. What did the jailer do? Acts 16:33-34.
Note: Millions of professed Christians have the understanding that all that is necessary to please God is to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that He paid the price for our sins. Then, if they are baptized and join the Church, they will be saved. The Bible nowhere teaches that, and to accept that doctrine is to accept a counterfeit religion. In every case we are taught that to believe on Jesus Christ will bring about a changed life.
7. Will many be disappointed in the end? Why? Matthew 7:21-23.
Note: This describes the condition of all who are religious but not righteous. Those who accept the doctrines of being a Christian and yet sin every day will in the end be declared workers of iniquity and will be rejected.
8. What did Satan use to tempt Christ? Matthew 4:5-6.
9. What will mankind do without salvation? Psalm 53:1-4.
10. How did Jesus answer one that called Him good? Matthew 19:16-17.
11. Should we boast of our righteousness? I John 1:8.
12. What are we doing if we say we have not sinned? I John 1:10.
Note: These are some of the Scriptures Satan will use to confuse us (questions 9-12); let us not be deceived, but let us rightly divide the Word of Truth.
