The Conflict: Part 1 of 2

Preview: The story of Cain and Abel. This is the first part of a two-part lesson on the conflicts generated from Cain’s decision to kill his brother.


Scripture Reading: Genesis 4:9-15.

Memory Verse: I John 3:12.

1. What was the possibility God considered after man sinned? Genesis 3:22.
2. What did He see as best for him? Genesis 3:23-24.
3. Why did Adam name his wife Eve? Genesis 3:20.
4. What were Cain and Abel’s occupations? Genesis 4:2.
5. Did each of them bring an offering to God? Genesis 4:3 & Genesis 4:4 (first part).
6. What was the result? Genesis 4:4 (last part) & Genesis 4:5.
7. Did the Lord discuss the problem with Cain? Genesis 4:6-7.
8. What did Cain do? Genesis 4:8.
Note: Here we see an example of the unfair advantage evil takes over good. A righteous person will do an evil person no harm, he is always the victim. Instead of Cain changing his way so God would accept him, he killed his brother.
9. Did Cain confess to killing his brother? Genesis 4:9.
Note: There is good reason to think Cain never repented of murdering his brother. Cain represents the natural man who will not confess or repent.
10. What was the penalty God put on Cain? Genesis 4:10-12.
11. Did Cain’s reply show any sorrow for his deed? Genesis 4:13-14.
12. What did Cain do? Genesis 4:16.
13. Who took the place of Abel? Genesis 4:25.
14. How old was Adam when Seth was born? Genesis 5:3.
15. What age did Adam reach? Genesis 5:5.
