Preview: Basic rules for a peaceful and happy family life have been provided throughout the Bible. Knowing and following these rules is rewarding for the entire family and a great example to all who witness it in action. This is the first part of a two-part lesson on this subject.
Scripture Reading: Luke 6:43-49.
Memory Verse: Psalm 11:3.
1. Consider the foundation for marriage and family life:
A. Conduct of men and women before marriage: I Corinthians 6:15-18 & I Thessalonians 4:3.
B. Should there be honest communication before marriage? Amos 3:3.
C. What kind of love must exist for a right foundation? Genesis 2:23-24, Philippians 2:2-3 & Ephesians 5:29-33.
D. What results when a Christian marries an unbeliever? II Corinthians 6:14, Mark 3:25, Genesis 6:1-2 & Genesis 6:5.
Note: When we study God’s foundations for family living and compare it to today’s homes, it is not a wonder that the nation’s number one problem is broken homes and juvenile crime.
2. What should be our attitude toward parenthood? Psalm 127:3-5.
3. What did Christ say it would be like in the last days? Matthew 10:21.
4. Should small children be dedicated to God? I Samuel 1:11, I Samuel 1:20 & I Samuel 1:27-28.
5. Can small children be taught to love God? Matthew 19:14, I Samuel 2:26 & Proverbs 20:11.
6. Apply the following Scriptures and their results to the training and teaching of children today: Proverbs 23:12-13, Proverbs 19:18, Proverbs 13:24, Proverbs 20:11 & Proverbs 29:17.
7. Based on the previous Scriptures what should be the attitude of parents in training and correcting a child?
