The Fruit of the Spirit Is Goodness: Part 7 of 13

Preview: An in-depth study of the fruits of the spirit. This is the seventh lesson is a thirteen-part series on this subject.


Scripture Reading: Luke 10:30-37.

Memory Verse: Psalm 37:23.

1. Why would the Samaritan be classified as a good man according to the foregoing Scriptures?
Note: At that time, the Gospel of Christ had not been preached to any nationality but the Jews. Yet here was a man who, out of the goodness of his heart, spent his time and money to care for this wounded stranger after two Jewish spiritual leaders had looked at him and passed him by.
2. Why did Jesus say there is none good but one? Matthew 19:16-19 & Isaiah 64:6.
3. How does man achieve a spirit of goodness? Ephesians 4:21-24, Ephesians 4:30, Revelation 3:5 & Revelation 19:7-8.
Note: Our own goodness is as filthy rags, but through the blood of Jesus, we can become a new clean creation, clothed in the righteousness of Christ.
4. Is this new creature in Christ created to do good works? Ephesians 2:8-13.
5. How does the goodness and righteousness of God cause us to relate to our fellowman? Romans 15:1-7, Romans 15:13-14, Hebrews 10:23-25 & James 1:27.
Note: All who do good deeds are not necessarily godly people, but all godly people will do good works. They are not saved by their works, but they will do good works because they are saved. Only those who have charity (godly love) will profit from doing good. Read I Corinthians 13:3-6.
6. What kind of worship does God require of us? Isaiah 58:6-7.
7. What blessings are promised to those who minister godly love to the oppressed? Isaiah 58:8-11.
8. Will our worship be in vain if we fail to have this kind of love? Isaiah 58:1-5, Proverbs 3:27-28 & James 4:17.
9. Why was Barnabas called a good man? Acts 9:26-28, Acts 11:21-26 & Micah 6:8.
Note: The Greek word for goodness is “Euthutes” and is sometimes translated “righteousness”. The definition means kind, friendly, honorable, and dependable. All of these characteristics are found in the fruit of the spirit.
10. Are we judged by the words that we speak and the fruit that we bear? Matthew 12:32-37.
11. What standard will Jesus use when He returns to judge the nations? Matthew 5:10, Matthew 16:27, Revelation 20:11-13 & Revelation 22:12-14.
