Preview: A Biblical look at Christ’s work on earth. This is the first part of a two-part lesson on this subject.

Pre-reading: Matthew 4:1-25 & Matthew 5:1-48.

Scripture Reading: Mark 1:1-13.

Memory Verse: Malachi 3:1.

1. Discuss how Malachi foretold and Mark confirmed the beginning of Jesus’ earthly ministry according to the foregoing Scripture Reading and Memory Verse.
2. How did Christ begin His message to the people? Mark 1:14-15.
3. Had the time for His ministry been pre-arranged? Explain. Galatians 4:4-5.
Note: Nothing happens by chance with God. His time clock is already set for the final countdown of man’s destiny; just as it was for the first advent of Christ.
4. How soon did Jesus enlist others to carry the Gospel of the Kingdom? Mark 1:16-20.
5. What affect did His preaching have on those who heard Him? Mark 1:21-22, Mark 6:1-2.
6. What other ministry did Jesus perform? Mark 1:23-26.
7. How did the people react to this miracle? Mark 1:27-28, Mark 6:3.
Note: Although the people were astounded and amazed by the teachings and miracles of Jesus, they were offended because they saw Him only as a neighbor who was a poor carpenter’s son.
8. How did Jesus react to their attitude toward Him? Mark 6:4-6.
9. How did those who did respect Him benefit from His ministry? Mark 1:29-34, Mark 1:38-39.
10. How did Jesus stay empowered to carry out this great commission? Mark 1:35, Luke 5:15-16.
Note: Jesus found it necessary to take time out of His busy schedule to pray. Are you taking time to communicate with God?
