Preview: God directs the pathways of our lives. This is the first part of a two-part lesson on this subject.

Scripture Reading: Mark 10:17-31.

Memory Verse: John 1:12.

1. Can we ever truly receive Christ as Lord and Savior, according to the foregoing Scriptures, until we are completely willing to put Him first in every part of our lives? Discuss.
Note: The Christian life is a straight and narrow way. It is impossible for the natural man to make it on his own. In previous lessons we have found that the foundation of righteous living is presenting our body as a living sacrifice, dying to self and becoming a new creation. Now, let us consider some of the ways that we may continue to grow to spiritual maturity in Christ.
2. How important is prayer to our Christian growth? Jeremiah 33:3, Luke 21:34-36.
3. Why did Jesus find it necessary to pray? Matthew 14:22-23, Matthew 19:13-14, Matthew 26:36-41.
4. Can we be God’s children if we are ashamed of Him? Explain. Matthew 10:32-33, Mark 8:38.
5. What will we do if we love the Lord with all of our heart? Psalm 96:1-10.
6. Can one grow in Christ without studying His Word daily? Why or why not? Acts 17:11-12, I Peter 2:1-3.
7. What must we have in order to grow in Christ? Acts 2:38-39, Acts 2:41, Acts 2:46-47.
8. Can we understand spiritual things without the Holy Spirit? Explain. John 16:13-14, I Corinthians 2:9-14.
Note: We must be planted in Christ by the Holy Spirit through prayer and study of God’s Word. We then begin to grow in grace and knowledge, guided always by God’s Spirit.
9. What must we have in order to be added to the Church? Ephesians 2:5-10, Hebrews 11:5-6.
10. Who is invited to join the household of God? John 1:12-13, Revelation 22:17.
Note: Christ died for all. He is ready and waiting to save those who will come to God by Him. He is alive and making intercession for all who will believe in Him. Hebrews 7:22-25.
