Preview: This is the first of a nine-part series of lessons entitled: FEAR.
Scripture Reading: Acts 2:34-47.
Memory Verse: Acts 5:11.
1. Discuss the reaction of the people after hearing the Gospel of Christ as recorded in the foregoing Scriptures. What part did fear play in the early Church?
2. What happened to those in Ephesus? Acts 19:13-19.
3. What type of fear did Paul experience in Corinth? I Corinthians 2:1-5.
Note: Paul was fearful that his ministry might promote himself and his own wisdom rather than God’s wisdom and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. All who teach and preach must have this same concern; otherwise, the Word will not be fruitful. Christ must be lifted up, then He will draw the lost to Himself.
4. Why should sinners be rebuked publicly? I Timothy 5:19-21, Proverbs 27:5-6, Proverbs 28:23.
Note: This is contrary to man’s teachings today.
5. Why is rebuke vital to our salvation? Luke 17:3-4, II Timothy 4:2-4, Titus 1:13.
6. How does our reaction to rebuke show what is in our heart? Proverbs 9:8-10.
7. Why does God rebuke us? Revelation 3:19-22.
Note: Rebuke means to criticize, admonish, or reprove. All of us need correction at times. God (and His people) do this with love and long-suffering (patience). The wise will listen; it is their salvation. The foolish become angry and are lost.
8. Can we be holy and not fear God? Why or why not? Acts 9:31, II Corinthians 7:1.
9. What must our attitude be toward God and His saints (the Church)? Ephesians 5:1-2, Ephesians 5:19-21.
