Preview: The critical role Christ plays in our salvation. This is the first of a two-part lesson of the same name.
Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1-18.
Memory Verse: Matthew 1:21.
1. How are we led to believe from the foregoing Scriptures that these shepherds already knew the prophecies concerning the birth of Jesus?
2. On what authority did the shepherds know this message from the angels was true? Isaiah 7:14.
3. How did the wise men know what the star over Bethlehem meant? Matthew 2:1-7, Numbers 24:17, Micah 5:2.
Note: They were sure because they knew the prophecies of God. We also must know the Word to know the truth.
4. How is it possible to find salvation by any other means? Matthew 1:21, Acts 4:10-12.
5. What price did our Savior pay for our salvation? I Peter 1:17-20.
6. Why can we not afford to reject this gift? Hebrews 2:1-3, Hebrews 4:1, Hebrews 10:29.
7. What must we do to receive the free gift of salvation from God? Revelation 3:20-21, Revelation 22:17.
Note: He knocks on our heart’s door, but only we can invite Him in.
8. What condition is everyone in before receiving Christ? Ephesians 2:1-3.
9. What did God do for us in His mercy and goodness? Ephesians 2:4-6.
10. Why did He do this? Ephesians 2:7-9.
11. What will be the result of this in our lives? Ephesians 2:10, Ephesians 2:19.
Note: We cannot obtain salvation by good works alone; neither can we have salvation without producing good works.
12. What assurance do we have of our salvation? John 3:16, John 8:12, John 8:34-36.
Note: When we fully surrender ourselves to God, He not only cleanses us from all unrighteousness, but He can remove the desire to sin; however, we must want to be delivered.
