Preview: Biblical prophecy concerning Christ’s death.

Pre-reading: Mark 15:23 & John 19:1-42.

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 53:1-12.

Memory Verse: Acts 8:32.

1. Do we understand from the foregoing Scriptures that Isaiah prophesied the death of Jesus?
2. How do we know that he was speaking of Jesus in verse one? Romans 10:13-16.
3. How is faith obtained? Romans 10:17.
Note: Isaiah proclaimed the importance of witnessing and Paul confirmed it. Every child of God should proclaim the good news of the Gospel.
4. How do we know that Isaiah 53:3-4 was foretelling the ministry of Jesus? Matthew 8:14-17.
5. How did Paul and Peter interpret Isaiah 53:5-7? Romans 4:13, Romans 4:19-25 & I Peter 2:21-25?
Note: These two witnesses understood that Isaiah was foretelling the ministry of Jesus. They declared that Jesus and His promises are available to all who have faith to accept Him.
6. How was Isaiah 53:8-9 fulfilled? Matthew 27:50 & Matthew 27:57-60.
7. Isaiah 53:12 foretold that Jesus would be called a transgressor. How was that fulfilled? Mark 15:27-28.
8. Did David describe the death of Jesus? Psalm 22:1, Psalm 22:13-19 & Psalm 34:20.
9. How was this prophecy fulfilled? Matthew 27:35-36, Luke 23:34, & John 19:23-24, John 19:33 & John 19:36.
10. What else did David foretell concerning the death of Jesus, and how was it fulfilled? Psalm 69:21, Psalm 69:26, Psalm 109:3-5, & Matthew 27:34 & Matthew 27:39-42.
Note: Even though the Prophets were inspired by God to foretell the details of Jesus’ death, it is highly probable that they understood very little of its meaning. Today their prophecy and its fulfillment leaves no doubt that Jesus is The Christ, the Son of the Living God, the Lord and Savior of the world.
