Preview: A look at reasons for keeping the Sabbath vs. Sunday keeping.

Scripture Reading: Exodus 20:8-11.

Memory Verse: Matthew 15:9.

1. What did God command Moses to tell the children of Israel about the Sabbath? Exodus 31:12-13.
2. Which day did God command man to keep holy? Why should one day be different from the other six days? Exodus 31:14-17.
3. Was God talking about His Commandments written on stone, or was He talking about the law of ordinances written in the book? Exodus 31:18.
Note: The seventh day of the week is the Sabbath day. God rested on that day, blessed that day, hallowed that day, and commanded us to keep that day holy. The Catholic Church acknowledges that the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week. They also admit that they transferred the obligation of rest and worship from the seventh day to the first day of the week in order to commemorate the resurrection, (See pages 49 and 54 of section 5 in the Catholic Guide.).
4. Was man’s effort to change God’s Commandment a fulfillment of prophecy? Daniel 7:23-25.
5. Did God institute a memorial? What was it? Did He command us to observe it? Genesis 2:1-3 & Exodus 20:8.
Note: The observance of the weekly Sabbath is a memorial of creation. God Himself instituted this memorial and commanded us to observe it. “Keep the resurrection day holy” is a man made commandment without one text of Scripture to support it. Contrary to the belief of many people, Christ arose on the Sabbath. The report given in Matthew is the only report of the Gospel writers that tells when the resurrection took place. The reports recorded in Mark chapter 16, Luke chapter 24, and John chapter 20 tells of an empty tomb vacated by the Savior who had already risen. Matthew 28:1-3 tell us when it took place: “In the end of the Sabbath…”
6. How did Christ describe man made Gospel? Matthew 15:7-9.
7. What is promised to those who attempt to change the Word of God? Revelation 22:18-19.
