Can Christians Be Independent?

Preview: Part of our Christian lifestyle and duty is to be one with our Church. God is our life and our life’s mission. We must stay united with one accord to those who are with Christ so that we may all do our duties to the fullest capacity.


Scripture Reading: I Corinthians 12:1-14.

Memory Verse: Malachi 3:16.

1. Discuss the importance of each member of the body as described in the Scripture Reading. I Corinthians 12:1-14.
2. What happens when one member (or Christian) decides it does not need the body (Church). I Corinthians 12:15-17.
3. Who only can appoint our position in the Church? I Corinthians 12:18-19.
4. Is any individual member more important than another? I Corinthians 12:20-25 & Galatians 3:26-28.
5. How does it affect the whole body when one member is sick or in trouble? I Corinthians 12:26.
6. To whom does the whole body belong? I Corinthians 12:27 & I Corinthians 6:19-20.
Note: This applies to both the spiritual body (the Church) and the physical body which is also the temple of God. Therefore, we have no right to abuse or misuse either. We are not our own, we have been bought with a price. We must therefore glorify God in both body and Spirit, which are God’s. (I Corinthians 6:20.) We will be dedicated as servants to man and God, and we are instructed to remain where He puts us. (I Corinthians 7:23-24.)
7. What are we to do once we are united to the body though the blood of Jesus? Hebrews 10:19-25.
Note: We become blood brothers through the blood of Jesus; we must love and care for each other as we do our own body. Separating ourselves from the body is like an amputated limb.
8. What was Christ’s last instruction to His disciples? Luke 24:46-49.
9. How did they respond and with what result? Acts 1:12-14, Acts 2:1-4 & Acts 2:38-41.
10. What was Paul’s instruction to the Church? I Corinthians 1:9-10, II Corinthians 13:11, II Corinthians 13:13 & Romans 15:1-7.
Note: Let us serve one another with godly love and be thankful to Him for adding us to the Body of Christ. Christ prayed that we might be one, as He and the Father are one. We cannot be one with God unless we are one with the other members of the Body of Christ, which is the Church.
