Is Speaking in an Unknown Tongue Evidence of the Holy Spirit?

Preview: Speaking in tongues has been often misunderstood by various churches. God intends for all of His children to hear the Word and pass it along in a way that is understandable to others. The gift of tongues helps to spread God’s message to all of those around us.


Scripture Reading: I Corinthians 13:1-13.

1. Did the Lord promise the Holy Spirit to the people of God before Christ came? Joel 2:28-32.
Note: The prophet Joel made no reference to the tongues being the evidence of the Holy Spirit.
2. Did Jesus make mention or renew the promise of the Holy Spirit to His disciples? Luke 24:49.
3. When was the promise of Joel and Jesus fulfilled? Acts 2:1-8.
Note: No promise of unknown tongues as the evidence of the Holy Spirit was mentioned by Jesus in Luke 24:49. The greatest miracle there ever had been among them was that they heard them speak in their own language; that proves it was not unknown but was understandable.
