Laws Relating to Our Duty to Man

Preview: This lesson is a guide to the laws of the Bible. Since the Bible is the foundation of the legal system of all civilized nations, it is very important that matters concerning the laws be understood.


Scripture Reading: Luke 10:25-37.

Memory Verse: Matthew 23:11.

1. Do we understand from the foregoing Scriptures that it is impossible to serve God unless we have love, compassion, and a servant’s heart for mankind?
2. What law governs our responsibility to our own families? Exodus 20:12, Matthew 15:4-9, I Timothy 5:3-4 & I Timothy 5:8.
3. What roll will a godly mother play in her family? Proverbs 31:15-27.
4. What does it mean to be our brother’s keeper? Genesis 4:8-13 & I John 3:14-17.
Note: It is our responsibility to do all in our power to make peace with our disgruntled brethren. Also, if he has financial needs, we must share our food with him.
5. What is said about murder? Exodus 20:13, Matthew 5:21-22, Mark 7:21-23 & Numbers 35:30-31.
6. What is God’s Law pertaining to adultery? Exodus 20:14, I Corinthians 6:9, James 4:4, Matthew 5:27-28 & Revelation 2:21-22.
7. What is said of stealing and its punishment? Exodus 20:15, Leviticus 19:11, Exodus 22:1-15, Proverbs 6:30-31 & Zechariah 5:3-4.
8. Why is it important that we speak the truth? Exodus 20:16, Deuteronomy 19:15-21, Proverbs 21:28, Proverbs 6:16-19 & Proverbs 25:18.
9. What is the final punishment for lying? Psalm 52:1-5, Revelation 22:14-15 & Revelation 21:8.
Note: A liar or false witness is one who tells or implies an untrue story for the purpose of hurting the victim or making themselves look better.
10. Consider the law against covetousness and its punishment. Exodus 20:17, Deuteronomy 27:11, Deuteronomy 27:17, Ezekiel 22:12-13, Deuteronomy 23:24-25, Deuteronomy 5:21, Leviticus 18:20, Proverbs 6:34-35, I Corinthians 5:11 & I Corinthians 6:10.
Note: Covetousness is to desire with eagerness something that is not ours.
11. How are we to regard our neighbor? Matthew 22:36, Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31, Romans 13:9-10 & James 2:8.
12. Who is our neighbor? Luke 10:25-36 & Galatians 5:13-14.
Note: (1) A neighbor is one who lives nearby. (2) Everyone to whom we have an opportunity of being good. (3) One who does us good and pities and relieves us in distress.
13. Which are the two most important Commandments? Mark 12:28-34 & James 2:5-10.
Note: Jesus said that we are very close to the Kingdom of God when we love Him with all our heart and love our neighbor as ourselves. James makes it very clear that we cannot keep God’s royal law and show respect of persons. We cannot withhold love because of race, gender, or creed.
